Company History

(otherwise known as a great opportunity to blow our own horn – I’ll try to be humble)

Donald and Larry Kouns started D & L Equipment Works in 1977 in Lemon Grove, California. Over the next several years, D & L Equipment Works established its name as a specialist in turnkey compressed air and vacuum projects, serving San Diego and neighboring counties including Imperial, Orange, Los Angeles, Inland Empire and others.

As the company grew, the partners decided they wanted a niche market. Both partners had engineering experience in their background and wanted their niche to be challenging. The medical market became the target and the company found it to be steady, interesting work dealing with a stable clientele. The company focused on building relationships with hospitals and surgery centers, dental schools, laboratories, bio-tech, pharmaceutical and other special process applications.

Don and Larry concentrated on learning as much as possible about medical air and vacuum, NFPA, other regulations, and concentrated on how to apply this knowledge. After installing several “off the shelf” air and vacuum systems, Don and Larry found that providing “cookie cutter” equipment was selling the customer short. Ultimately the client ends up with items they don’t need or are placed in a position where they must add expensive options that have long lead times for factory production. Don and Larry both decided to utilize their engineering backgrounds to design and fabricate their own lines of source equipment that would satisfy all the needs of every customer and be user and service friendly.

Every “medical or special process” application is different. Our custom packages are built from scratch according to the parameters and requirements specified by every application. Word gets around quickly when end users find out they can purchase exactly what they need at nearly the same price as cookie cutter and get it in a reasonable amount of time. Our business has flourished under this premise.

One of the things that makes us different is that we’ve handled all facets of the process from equipment buildup to maintenance. With fabrication as a focal point of our operations, our years of experience in the field has given us a unique equipment perspective. This experience has led us to fabricate our packages for ease of installation, service, maintenance and repairs.

The last 40+ years have been dedicated to crafting the best medical equipment available while building strong mutual business relationships with vendors, engineers, contractors, end users and others involved in the medical trade.

And we don’t stop there. We believe in standing behind and caring for our own equipment and equipment made by others. Our service division offers service calls, pump repair or rebuilding, preventative maintenance contracts, 24/7 emergency service, and a full array of emergency and standby NFPA compliant rental equipment including medical air and medical vacuum pumps or systems, dryers, filter banks, monitors, alarms, etc. This enables us to offer our clientele the most well-rounded medical equipment resource available to the industry.

Our employees go through service schools and medical gas installation courses. They also train in our own manufacturing and fabrication shop where they learn all aspects of the equipment before they go into the field.

Our service technicians are ASSE 6040, HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogens and COVID-19 certified. They have strict healthcare documentation through several hospital credentialing agencies including all recommended disease inoculations and background checks. We are members of NFPA, carry a California State Contractor’s License and meet/exceed regulations and required insurances. We have tons of references from healthcare facilities nationwide. Please feel free to request credentialing and references. Our service division has prospered as we continue to care for source equipment in several western states. As we continue to grow, we are always looking for talented service technicians.

Today, airandvac.com is a source equipment fabricator focusing on all healthcare industries. The 40+ years we’ve spent researching and building medical source equipment packages has enabled us to key in on the core features and requirements for new builds or upgrading any medical facility. Although we also provide standard air and vacuum packages, our company thrives on its ability to provide custom packages that meet the exact needs of every application.

The ultimate goal . . . you get what you need, you get it timely and it’s easy on your pocketbook.

VIBRATION ISOLATION

Proper vibration prevention is important to equipment efficiency, function and life expectancy. Not all vibration isolators are created equal and choosing the right ones for your equipment is instrumental.

Isolators are designed to create superior performance stability by absorbing vibrations and shock and by distributing the equipment load evenly. This prevents rocking, limits impact shock transmission and blocks sensitive components from low frequency shock and also high frequency vibrations present in the floor.

We use only the finest grade isolators chosen for your specific application, equipment load handling requirements and any NFPA99 or other regulations governing the equipment chosen for your facility.
