Donald and Larry Kouns started D & L Equipment Works in 1977 in Lemon Grove, California. Over the next several years, D & L Equipment Works established its name as a specialist in turnkey compressed air and vacuum projects, serving San Diego and neighboring counties including Imperial, Orange, Los Angeles, Inland Empire and others.
As the company grew, the partners decided they wanted a niche market. The medical market became the target and the company found it to be steady, challenging work dealing with a stable clientele. The company focused on building relationships with hospitals and surgery centers, dental schools, laboratories, bio-tech, pharmaceutical and other special process applications.
Don and Larry focused on learning as much as possible about medical air and medical vacuum, NFPA and other regulations, and concentrated on how to apply this knowledge. The company began fabricating its own NFPA compliant medical air and vacuum systems using quality equipment and components from major manufacturers and suppliers worldwide. To facilitate turnkey projects including installation, the company acquired its California State Contractors License.
The last 35 years have been dedicated to crafting the best medical equipment available while building strong mutual business relationships with vendors, engineers, contractors, end users and others involved in the medical trade.
Every “special process” application is different. This makes choosing “off the shelf, cookie cutter” equipment difficult. Ultimately end users end up with items they don’t need or are placed in a position where they must add expensive options that have long lead times for production. This is where we shine. Our custom packages are built from scratch according to the parameters and requirements specified by every application. Word gets around quickly when end users find out they can purchase exactly what they need at nearly the same price as cookie cutter and get it in a reasonable amount of time. Our business has flourished under this premise.
The 40+ years we’ve spent researching and building packages for some of the finest medical facilities in the country has enabled us to key in on the core features and requirements for new or upgrading any medical facility. We use only the best and highest quality equipment and components that have proven over time to be the most reliable and efficient.
One of the things that makes us different is that we handle all aspects of the process from equipment buildup to maintenance. With fabrication as the focal point of our company, our experience as an installer has given us a unique equipment perspective that can only be understood from working in the field.
One of the most crucial aspects of installation is the equipment location – it’s size, its access, the ability to move and manipulate the equipment in the space, the availability of needed utilities, what’s positive or prohibitive upstream and downstream, how surrounding machinery may affect equipment performance, what will be required to hook it up to the existing structure and the dozens of other factors involved in an installation. This knowledge has been instrumental in the fabrication and configuration of our systems and equipment package designs. Our employees go through service schools, medical gas installation courses and are certified braziers, adding more expertise to our growing list of credentials.
And we don’t stop there. We believe in standing behind and caring for our equipment. Our service division offers service calls, pump repair or rebuilding, preventative maintenance contracts, 24/7 emergency service, and a full array of emergency standby rental equipment including medical air & medical vacuum equipment, dryers, filter banks, monitors, alarms, etc. This enables us to offer our clientele the most well-rounded medical equipment resource available to the industry.
Our service technicians are ASSE 6040, HIPAA and Bloodborne Pathogens certified and have strict healthcare documentation through several hospital credentialing agencies including all recommended disease inoculations and background checks. We are members of NFPA, carry a California Contractor’s License and meet/exceed regulations and required insurances. We have tons of references from healthcare facilities nationwide. Please feel free to request credentialing and references.
Today, airandvac.com is a source equipment fabricator focusing on all healthcare industries. Although we provide standard air and vacuum packages, our company thrives on its ability to provide custom packages that meet the exact needs of every application. Our service division has prospered as we continue to care for source equipment in several western states.
